Was in the passenger side of the car in a car park when a bloke in a completely different bay of parking spaces reversed out without looking turning 90 degrees in the process straight into the nearside corner of the mini. I hit the horn but he didnt even realise it was me that was blaring the horn. Damage is sligtly bent bonnet, scuffed plastic arch trim and scuffs on the foglight area of the bumper. This guy doesnt want to go through the insurance as he is the owner of a bodywork repair place in Weymouth. He has admitted liability and has offered to repair all of the damage. Im tempted to let him do it as my excess is £350 and I dont think the damage is that expensive. The bonnet can be bent back my hand and has no paint damage. The rest ia a bumper respray and plastic trim replacement. I am fully comp and my insurance will claim of his but my renewal is up at the begining of march and I dont want a claim being processed while im trying to haggle a better insurance deal. Just wondered what peoples thoughts are. [ Edited Sat Feb 13 2010, 09:04AM ]

Also a claim like that should make no difference. I had this happen to me in my old black S and made no difference at all to the price. Who you with atm? Image: http://

Good job you were in the car to see it happened otherwise he would have driven off without a doubt..don't let him get away with not getting a penalty on *his* insurance, he wouldn't have thought twice about yours if he'd driven off. I have his registration number and his address as he is well known in the area, not for the wrong reasons as it happens. Knowing my luck his Bodywork place are probably Allianzes prefered repairer.![]() Its a pity I cant drive at the moment as I normally sit in the same space with the engine running. I might have had time to hit reverse and avoid the collisiion. Hind site is a wonderfull thing. [ Edited Sat Feb 13 2010, 09:05AM ]

Personally, if he's known and well respected and has taken full responsibility then id let him repair it. Mainly as I have done the same thing in the past and insurance companies are a bunch of leaches! MINI Project 370hp and counting... : MINIProject.co.uk

As I ended up back at the hospital due to a huge allergic reaction to anti inflamatory tablets I was given for my hand, we decided to let this guy fix the damage he had caused. Big Mistake. Got the car back yesterday and it is one of the biggest bodges I have seen for a long time. There was overspray on the fog light and the surround. The paint is bubbling where the bumper goes under the grill because they were too lazy to take the bumper of to respray it and there is still a crack in the bumper around the fog light surround. The good part is the paint match is ok. Anyway lesson learnt. Its going to BMW on Monday for a quote and the estimate for new bumper and paint plus labour and parts is £650 inc VAT. I will pay to get it repaired and give him the bill. Whether I get anywhere i dont know but this is certainly a back street outfit. Hope you guys have had a better week than me and I'll see you on Tracies run in March. [ Edited Sat Feb 13 2010, 08:53AM ]

As harsh as it sounds I'm just saying what everybody else is thinking... Why oh why did you not just wait and go through the insurance?? I'd be willing to be bet if you gave him the bill he'd give you the finger. Sorry to hear about this and hope it comes to a happy ending soon. Image: http://

Posts: 626 | Dave, i'm so sorry to be reading about this accident, and your allergic reaction to the drugs you were taking following your operation. It's always best to go through the insurance when you've had a knock without exception, even when it's only a minor knock. As you can never tell the extent of the damage under the surface. I wish you a good outcome to this problem though, but at this stage i'm not confident you will see any money from this charleton who crashed into you, then bodged the repair for you. One thing you can do if you get no joy from him, is to post the name of this company on the site, so knowone else has the misfortune of having any dealings with this shyster in the future. Hope your feeling better soon Dave.

I wanted to change insurance companys as I feel I was ripped off last year when I changed to the mini from the mg to the region of around £300. A lot off insurance companys are reluctant to quote when you have a claim going through in case the outcome does not favour there new client even though the claim is dealt with and paid out by your previous insurance company. Obviously if it had been anyone else who didnt have there own bodyshop then I would have had to stick with my current insurance company and made a claim against him which would have had a better outcome but have tied me in for another year with my current rip off merchants. Anyway lesson learnt, just means ive got to wait another month before I get me tyres for the new wheels. Plus side is ive just got a good quote with bells and whistles through Adrian flux for the mini and my quad so ive saved nearly £300 across two policies. Dave

Dave Send him the bill along with 14 days to pay. If he doesn't pay then small claims it is. Still not a dead cert option but at £25 it's worth a punt. New wheels? Whats wrong with the current ones? Always wanted 18's on my mini and they are one of the few wheels that will fit over the 4 pot calipers. [ Edited Wed Feb 17 2010, 09:41PM ]
