ladies and gents some of you are aware my powersteering is shot ! ... keeps cutting out at randum points ...  yada yada yader anyway just wondering what experences people have had with the common fault and what dealers have done to aid yourselves ....

put it this way if thay dont fix it theres no way in hell i can afford the cost ! so thay will be having the car back and thus ending my love affair with lou and MINI's

Didnt you call Mini Assist?? its the best way to shortcut the dealer repair times as it becomes a priority repair

If you do a search on mini2 there is hawlds of info on there by nearobreaker & mabs that really helped me out when i had to have mine done. Have a look.

The general concescious seems to be if you mini is under 6years old & under 40,000 then you get the part paid for & all you have to pay is a hours labour & you get a 2year gurantee on the car/part. If you get 100% paid for you dont get the gurantee but very slim that you will get that.

I just phoned my delaer up & explained what was wrong & wamted to apply for a goodwill & they did the rest but some dealers arn't that helpful!! & even deyning there is a problem!! so if there no help get to mini assist as Dave said above.

Put all the info you need is on min2 - the title of the thread is ' have you ever had a power steering pump fail' (or something to that effect!!) you will have to go back a few pages - its also on total mini as well

Hope you get it sorted as it not pleasent - i managed to get mine done before it went as mine didnt go straight away but showed the symptoms so got it replaced.

Good luck & hope you get you mini fixed soon

If you need any more info let me know

Best wishes

I think we can get new pumps for under £300 nowadays and fitting is under £50

It may just be a rusty connector? or dust build up inside the pump motor, but its just as much work to fit a new one as attempt to fix an old one

Just make sure you use the correct fluid or its a new rack and pump!!

Did you have to pay anything?? just be careful if you get the whole cabodul payed for that you still get the 2year gurantee on the part!!

Glad they have found the fault & replacing the pump - it will feel like a new mini again when they have repaired it

Thats great news Rob. Think we owe a huge thanks to BBC watchdog for fighting our corner on that one too!
