By now most of you will have heard something or other about my Mini Cooper.  On Saturday 7th I was driving towards my local amenity tip via the motorway A3M and had turned down the sliproad, upon reaching the bottom there was a car coming from the right on the roundabout so I stopped, I was then rammed with such force from behind that I was pushed into the road in front.  I pulled over to the side and just burst into tears.  He was driving a s plate Peugeot estate and came away with no damage what so ever and my Mini where do you begin !.   He asked me if I was okay, gave me his details and asked for mine, and then said he was in a hurry was I okay again and then just left leaving me there.  Unknown to me Jade (blackmini) was going past just after it happened but couldn't stop to help me.  I got the car home and the insurance company told me after I explained about the damage that my Mini would probally be a write off as they thought it had chassis damage.  I was told to take it to Snows this morning which I did and thankfully the chassis is okay. The assessor said he had to be doing about 40 mph when he hit my stationery Mini according to my damage caused.  The boot lid has been completely altered having lots of small and large dents in it, the boot catch has been pushed though the boot lid,  missing paint, rear fog light missing, the offsife rear corner by the light cluster has some slight damage and will have to be resprayed, the bumper has three very large cracks in it with missing paint, the exhaust was hit so hard it has bent and moved in out of position, the bar behind the bumper has to be replaced, the boot floor has a large crack across it and now lets water in as the seal has been broken and finally the rear suspension has to be replaced.  They took it out for a test drive and said it was unsafe to drive as the tracking had gone and it was hard to keep it in a straight line.  So they have kept the car.  The estimate so far including all the bits I have put on the car is just under 5 grand.  I will now have to wait and see if the insurance company will write it off or repair it for me.  One good piece of information about all this stress it has put me under is that I have 22 days left of my GAP insurance, so hopefully I might get a brand new MIni depending on what gets decided.
I would rather have my Park Lane back as my dad bought it for me and he is no longer with us.
The only thing hit to survive was my IOM number plate which was in the centre of the smash    not a scratch!!!

Cant believe the speed of things, accident at 1 pm sat, reported 3 pm Sat, assessed midday Mon, phone call today (just now 2.45pm) saying as I had a limited edition model the reserve for repairs was larger, so yes they have agreed to repairing it.  Snow's have already started so hopefully I will get AJ back they say after about 14 days time YIPEE  I'm so happy.

Glad there is no damage to the Chasiss, but with a 5k bill for the repair job I would be anxious as to wether the insurance company will write it off....let's keep our fingers crossed all goes well & your Park Lane will be 'As Good As New' keep us updated!

That sounds like quite an ordeal for you Sue. Most importantly you are ok.

I am sure it will all work out for the best in the end, but i expect that now it does seem quite overwhelming.

So sorry to hear what a dreadful time you have been having.

I hope that the garage and the insurance company work together to ensure that you are soon back on the road, either with your Park Lane MINI or with a new MNI.

Ah this reminds me of 2006 when that horse ran infront of me, and several other people had prangs in their MINIs.

So watch out in 2012!

Its always awful to have an accident, espescially when its not your fault. Thank god they are repairing the car and they are doing it so quickly. Even better that it is at a BMW workshop, they will do a fantastic job i'm sure.

That was a rare year.......think back how many Minis you know that have had crashes. Its quite a few now! I was only a week ago I was laughing with James about his Cooper crash into that ditch.

As with everything like this its more important that you are ok, Sue,  as the Mini can be repaired. £5K is a little steep but thats exactly why insurance is so expensive these days.

I am suprised the they would say as much as 40mph though. At that speed your Mini would have been lifted away instead of driven but even though the front of a car is one of the strongest bits 40mph will fold up a car nicely.

"LATEST"
The repair for my Mini is now well on its way, saw her stripped and waiting for bits AND It looked worse now than what it did before they started !
The total bill so far has come to £2,664.99p (the damage wasn't so bad as they thought) and I have got to claim £62 from the insurance company direct for the chrome number plate holder I had on AJ as Snows wont buy or fit it as it is not a geniune BMW part.
Hope to get it back Friday 27th
(finger crossed)
