Ok so i know a few of you have them now......How you getting on with it? In terms of running costs, reliability and most importantly how does it compare to the older cooper and cooper S.

I had a test drive yesterday and I was pritty impressed, and suprised how much different it feels to the older cars.

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Well if you had asked me between July 2007 when i got mine and about August 2008 i would have said that i didn't rate the R56 S as highly as the R53 S. Mainly because of the torque steer and it feels less 'go kart' and had a more 'wallowy' feel.

My opinion was largely based upon road handling and partly on missing the supercharger wine and exhaust burble.

However I now love it. Lowering and some other tweeks have changed my opinion totally. To the point that before i would have gone back to a GP, but now i really wouldn't.

The one thing that i have not found is that there is a lack of power. The acceleration through the gears is really good and it keeps producing more power, it is great.

Running costs i get about 340-380 miles to a tank (which cost me £48 of V-power today, i am not sure about how many litres that is) and that is just around town. I got about 380 miles when i did longer motorway journeys. In the GP i used to get about 280 miles to a tank on longer motorway travel and in the R53 S before its about the same.

I think that road tax is a bit cheaper in the R56 S than R53 S. It has been a while since i drove a normal R53 S, they are definately good at road handling and more fun cars than a standard R56 S in my opinion.

Reliability is good, i have the well accounted for engine rattle but intermittently and apparently there is now a fix.

I will stop the essay now, sorry for going on. It is all personal choice. Are you thinking of changing?

I had a Cooper on an 04 plate and loved it...but always wanted to upgrade to the S. I got my R56 s in March 07 after test driving the old Supercharged version and the comparrison. For me I was a bit concered wether you would get Turbo lag, but none of it! the power kicks in straight away. I like the whine of the Supercharger but I was Completely sold on the R56 s AND GLAD I GOT HER! Fuel consumption on a long run aint bad either, we have had 43.8 to the gallon (approx).

I've had mine since 1st Dec 08 and I love it especially The Slapper Button

I'm averaging between 36-39 mpg on V power around town.

As Charlotte says there is no Turbo lag and the power goes on and on.
I had a 04 Cooper before and loved it, however mine feels more solid than my old car and better built.

I too have had the cold start rattle about 4 times from new, but Im not bothered as its not an everyday thing and there is a fix

they must have plenty in a field somewhere They have to sell them quick so haggle as much off as you can. Especially since they just laid off 850 workers.

I can sum the R56 S up in two words..... "Refined" but "fun"

Ring Justine @ Scotthalls
Then tell her Tracie said to ring,..then haggle
Might take you a week before you get the result you want, but stick with it

Yeah no problem. I went too woods originally and they didnt really move very fast on things.....So i visited scotthall in southampton.......my top advice is go to a couple of dealerships and make them battle each other for your buisness because they both need it! As it happens i got £1200 off an 08 built car, free Road fund, Free fuel, Free Scotch guard. oh.....and the car i wanted!!
