Phew, near miss from incurring substantial damage to Apple! Max, my dad, and whatever is up there must be watching over me! amazed.png

Took Apple to one of our favourite places in leafy Wiltshire countryside with the aim to try out the new folding bike in private in case I make a fool of myself as I have not ridden a bike in years confused.png

I have been to this place, Maddington Down quite a few times with no problem. However, after some heavy rain, the track was a mud bath, and I got stuck good and propper special.png

Did not help with Borda whining impatiently wanting to get out and play dead.png
On top of that, I left by mobile phone at home dead.png

When I discovered that, I thought, "Hmmm, something may happen, and it will be sods law that I do not have my phone with me." shy.png

I took a mental note of the farm not far from my destination, and thought I might need to walk there for help.

And I did, and Borda had a good run around with the nice lady's Boxers while I rang AA for help

When the nice AA man arrived, who happened to be the same AA man who came to my rescue shortly after my partner died when the steering pump failed and drained the battery of my car. He took one look and said would not take his van up to my car in case he too got stuck cry.png

We were contemplating calling for help in the form of a specialist recovery vehicle at the cost of about 300 GBP, and this nice family in a 4-wheel drive turned up

They offered to help, and after 2 attempts,  Apple was freed, with no sign of any damage, except for lots of mud

Got a ticking off from the AA man though dead.png  He reminded me a MINI is not an off-road car, and I was extremely lucky not to have incurred substantial damage like a puncture in the engine etc... dead.png

Lesson learnt I can tell you!!! And I must not forget to take my phone with me in future!!! amazed.png

And thank you to all the nice people who helped me, and to whatever is up or down there looking after me

We do have them, they are called country folks tongue.png

Unlike that townie the other day that I met on a walk. He was taking photos and did not want Borda to jump up on him to get his jeans dirty shy.png

If they decide to go ahead with that, probably

I am considering either a Defender or a Freelander in future, in addition to Apple.

No point in selling Apple unless she becomes too unreliable or costly to service/repair.

After reading more about the MINI Crossman, if it is a true 4x4, even if its 4x4 capability is lightweight when compared with the likes of Freelander, it will suit my needs as an occassional off-road user.

Afterall, it is only for playtime with Borda!

Get a Defender!

Nothing is more iconic of the countryside than a Defender!

It is in the pipeline and "Will be marketed as soon as possible."

There's not a lot on the BMW press website other than it will be built in Austria because the Oxford plant is at maximum capacity.

I like the idea of a Crossman more and more, after I read something on the Airstream caravan site that some kind of partnership with MINI has been struck.

I really like the idea of getting a Crossman and a small Airstream in 5-6y time, when I am too old to go camping in a tent!

Here is a pic of Apple The Bike

Sadly, I have to put her up for sale (on eBay and Preloved), as it is not suited to ride on canal tow paths and recreation trails around leafy Wiltshire

I would love to keep it, however, can't justify having 2 folding bikes, as I shall get another folder with front and rear suspensions, which will be kinder to my backside and arms!

Did they want the stabilisers with it when you sold it?

No, just like the new owner did not want your child seat when you sold your first MINI
