Have been looking to get some spotlights on the front end for a little while now as I always feel the car looks as if its missing something without. Anway had a look on ebay and have seen a lot of Wipac Stainless steel 5 'mini Style' spotlights for sale with brackets. Just wondering if they were any good or has anybody fitted these.  They all seem to quote 5" dia is this the standard diameter for mini spots??..Cheers.

I'm also interested in people's opinions on the Wipac lights, as the BMW ones seem notorious for rusting! Chris

My nuts aren't rusty!

Though I do hear about about lots of people's going rusty and they seem in awe of mine! I dont know what I do, but they are nice and metalic after 37k!

The ones I had on my previous Mini were the ones from Mini Sport and the fittings rusted but the bar stayed clean throughout.

If someone has got a set of original mini ones fitted could they pop outside (as long as its not raining) and have a quick measure up on the diameter as 5" seems quite big ?? ..Cheers.

Hi Neal P,
Have just measured mine. The overall diameter is 6", but the glass bit in the middle is 5". That's probably absolutely no help at all!!

MINI Clubman............ Does my bum look big in this?!!

Rob, I did my lights myself. You won't need to get the lights coded. If you follow the instructions on M2 you should be fine.

Although....... I didn't get mine right first time and the car nearly went up in smoke.

I got the help of an electrician who put in 2 lots of wiring. i.e. 2 lights on each section of wiring. One wire was not enough to power 4 lights and it started melting. Be careful!

Now you`ve worried him amazed.png

As a guide, each lamp draws about 5 amps, so, as you say, a pair of lamps per run of thick cable.

And don`t forget the essential 15 amp fuses, close to the battery to feed the relays.

That will stop you going up in smoke.

Finally tap into the full beam cable in a headlamp unit to trigger the relay coils.

I decided it was too much to try and fit my spots, so I went to Mini Matt and he has fitted them for me and done a lovely job. There is no rust so far ! and they are BMW ones

If you want a dodgy wiring job for your spotlights, ask T15Matt. Under his bonnet looked like a big pile of spaghetti when he did his!

Some people just don't read previous posts do they!

The relay will act as the switch when you wire it into the main beam cable in the headlamp unit

I have the original BMWs fitted aftermarket by Lee (Lee who I hear you askamazed.png)

Intrestingly BMW supply them with new stronger strut braces cos of the extra weight of the lamps on the bonnet.

I also heard pretty horrid stories about aftermarket Wipacs rusting....
