wWnt to my car on Saturday morning (it had been parked up for 3 days) and opened it, whilst loading stuff into the boot I heard a weird ticking sound - it was coming from the speedo!

The only way to stop it was to turn on the iginition which sorted the problem, except my clock then froze at that time.  The clock has rectified itself and it hasn't happened since.

Anyway it is going to Woods to be looked at but was wondering if anyone else had encountered this?  Below is a short clip I took at the time (hope link works!)

My old car did that sometimes. Nothing to worry about though, they won't find anything, its just something it does from time to time when its been left for ages.

New Banner coming soon!

That's weird but funny! Get it checked though as it could be a real fault. Never seen it myself except the occasional flutter of the needle which is rapid and last 2 seconds unlike that.

Right - rant time.....

Just got a call from Woods who have my MINI in to look at the speedo, and also the fact that a gale force blows out of my dash top vent (occasionally) even if all fans are off.

Having already colected the car, they have now said that they want £112.50 + Vat just to try and diagnose the fault as the car is 6 weeks out of warranty (and has only done 19k miles!!!)

I asked for them to do it under goodwill - they said they would consider it after the diagnosis (that I would still have to pay for) and would ask BMW for a contribution (no guarantees). If the cost of pasts is less than £100 then they would contribute nought!!!

Needless to say the car is on its way home unfixed. Any suggestions on where I go from here???

Why would you go to Woods? Salisbury?

I'd go to another garage and ask them to have a look. But I think you will have to pay the investigation cost whatever happens though. Both are probably not well known faults so goodwill is limited. If it was steering rack then it'd be much different im sure

It was Woods in Odiham. Whilst I agree, they are intermittent, and I will see if the problem persists before taking it further.

Oh yeah! The gale force blower without the vents being on...Yeah I've noticed that as well recently...

When you get the car back Phil, can you let me know what that is?! I mean...does the car have a mind of its own and likes pulling little pranks or what...?!

dodge.pngoops soz - dealing with money grabbing BMW MINI dealers has frazzled my brain.  Anyway, back to the topic in hand, the clock is working again which is nice!
