Kind of related to Finance, as it was going to hit my pocket, but have a look at the following:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/3429019/Labour-U-turn-on-car-tax-rises.html

Seems the Credit Crunch has some up sides. Time to hang on to your MCS peeps - VED staying at £170 for another year, maybe longer!

Surely if you are going to tax  for pollution, do it by C02 per mile.

I may be driving a MCS, but my 4,000 miles a year will punt out a darn sight less greenhouse gasses than the 40,000-miles-a-year reps in the 1,6l tdci Mondeosmad.png

So it all on petrol.....CO2 is directly linked to fuel usage. use more fuel and have an uneconomical car and you pay more. Sadly being economical means worse problems than CO2 out the exhaust like NOX and all the rubbish that comes out the exhaust of a diesel. lol

And so it has come to pass....

See page 134-135 of the report:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/24_11_08_pbr_completereport.pdf

In summary, it appears that VED will go up by no more than £5 max next year for anyone. In 2010 there will be increases for existing owners but this will be no more than £30. New car purchasers with cars emiotting lots of CO2 will get hammered.

At last - a reasonable approach! Peeps can stop selling their MCSs for silly money now.
