i recently had to put my mini into the garage because of the management light and the engine was running like a bag of spanners, bmw coudnt find a fault but they reckon they put 800ml of oil into the engine and it cured the problem, what concerns me is if it only takes that amount of oil to cause problems is there an underlying problem with the engine. there wasnt a suficient drop in oil to bring the oil warning light on

Sounds like two problems, one being the low engine oil and something else that caused the warning light to come on. Have you asked them for a print out of the diagnosis report. When the light comes on a fault code is stored, ask them what it was.

Is that a Cooper?? I know from experience that a 02 Cooper S can run with 2 litres of oil missing and only feel a bit tight.

I remember when mine was low on oil, running like a bag of spanners, management light on etc. Cost me best part of £3K to fix!

Best part was BMW said they had 3 cars in over the same weekend with the same problem.

They must know there is a problem with the engine because they even gave me 80% off the cost of all the parts even though the car was out of warranty. That was offered without argument too!!

Just keep nagging Scothalls, they get the idea eventually ^^

Took 'em best part of a week to solve my cars "issues" if thats even the right word.

Still all sorted now tho!
