www.paramount-performance.com So paramount performance as far as i know are the only company in the country to be able to remap any yes ANY R56 cooper s no matter what ecu it has for the middle of april this year, and whats better threw the OBD port on the car, a true remap, and it gives you around 235bhp. Competative prices aswell i.e. £400 inc vat. I have just had there tuning box ecu piggy back unit on my car. Its amazing cant even see it, its so discrete, about half the size of a ciggy packet. They dyno the car before and after and i was running 176bhp before and now 235bhp. Its amazing a must for a mini, can really feel it aswell. Try and imagine a Gen1 cooper s with JCW kit and an extra 30bhp and you will now exactly how i feel. The people are very nice and it only takes about 1hr. Speak to Paul or Gerald and mention me (James Calland) for the special treatment, and maybe a very keen price.

I dont want to sound like a doubter....... but that would be the biggest increase that anyone has ever seen on an R56 and the lowest standard figure ive seen which is confusing. But still a good 30hp increase is very good value from a remap and the torque benefits at low rpms is where I suspect you really feel it

Im watching the R56 tuning very carefully! The new JCW factory engine has been modified a great deal to cope with the increase in power. I have experienced first hand (Not through my own company but with BMW) that the standard S engine struggles to cope with much more power than standard!

Keep an eye on oil levels at all times, the crank bearings are not tabbed, the slightest increse in friction between the two surfaces could cause the bearings to spin! the M3 S54 engine suffered similar problems untill modified by BMW.

Unlike the R53 engine this new one is not so robust!

The biggest problem with tuning the R56 is the Piezo HPI injectors. You cannot buy larger (incresed flow) versions at the moment which means for the extra performance they will be pushing the duration to the limit I suspect. Long term will result in faulty injectors! Trust me they are NOT cheap and have to be coded to the car. You cannot just replace them and expect them to work.

Thankyou for this information. I am at a cross roads now, because the company has done many and have not had problems. Also surley if superchips have done it then it must be safe?! Also what about things like Miltek exhuast that increase bhp to over 200bhp surely this is equally putting strain on the engine. Also the JCW kit gives the car basicl=ally 200bhp without changing the items mentioned above. So am i right in saying its ok to remap but just not to 235bhp maybe just 210/220. All advise welcome specially worksmini!

To be honest with my limited knowledge of R56 tuning it’s not so much the fueling (detonation etc) side of things with the R56 that’s the worry, its more why BMW have modified the JCW engine to such an extent. It makes me think that the original Cooper S engine was not up to the job.

The R53 platform was such a solid building block for BMW and Tuners alike! I mean look at GTT300, that’s staggering performance through the same block/crank etc! The only need to change the cylinder head was to create better flow.

As I said my knowledge of tuning R56 is limited as the R53 has not peaked yet IMHO. However I will endeavor to make the effort to look into it.

James, please don't think I have posted to scare or criticize in any way. If this company have done quite a few remaps then they sound pretty safe. Id be very interested to hear Roland (GTT) view, I know he had an R56 Cooper S and sold it on shortly after.

I also wonder the cylinder pressures and contamination as all the other tuners have all at a first point of call modified or pulled off that super restrictive manifold and the large series of precats.

Alta have done some really good work with the R56 too and are still leading the hp race by a long way so far as I know. Hubie Fue and Fireball Tim have really taken it to a big level too so there is strength in there but these companies have big money to change parts.

Interesting about the new injectors Lee! Betting that take some calibration!

Pre-cats are used to meet Euro 5 emissions, they are close coupled to heat up super quick. Their efficancy drops off when they get very hot hence the need for a downstream CAT.
