Hi

I was after a JCW airbox for my 2002 cooper s, but someone mentioned the GTT Cold air induction kit, Im just wondering which one is best, I know that the JCW one only fully opens up at 4000 revs so its fairly quiet up to that point, just how noisy is the GTT Kit? as i dont want to wake up babies and set off car alarms around town! also what kind of performace gains cound you expect from a GTT kit on a stock cooper S?

Cheers for the advice

Rich

Hi,

GTT wins hands down due to the design of the ram pipe and large filter. The Works is a little more for show and GTT even do an upgrade filter for the Works box to increase the air flow.

I wouldnt say the GTT is that much more noisy as the only sound you get is the supercharge anyway. Being supercharged you dont get the induction roar of an NA car.

John might even post up his rolling road findings for the GTT filter.

What Dave said is all correct. The GTT induction will not make the car any much louder, all you will hear is the supercharger sound more when on full gas. For normal driving around it's fine.

The performance gains you are looking at are 5bhp on a standard Cooper S. I have the rolling road results to prove this but the best gain you will get is on the torque curve and especially lower down on the rev range

John

The GTT induction kit will compliment any future tuning you do, the JCW is likely to be restrictive if you are considering a reduction pulley etc.

I may have a GTT CAI for sale... Cooper_sport, did you drill the holes in the plastic bulkhead to allow more air from the scuttle area to be available??

No, Im a little wary of anything that involves drilling holes! I think Im sold on the GTT induction though. It would complement the GTT210 package that I might want in the future., when I can afford it!

you dont need to drill holes, that section can be removed and refitted when returning back to stock

Well I didn't drill holes or remove the plastic section... Had it fitted and lost power... Roland said I should try removing the section for best results... Re-dynoing before and after does cost tho... So if anyone wants a CAI let me know...

You always loose power on the dyno when you add an open induction kit. Where as on the road you get fresh cold air and the pressure from the Cawl vents which increases power.

Personally the biggest increase is seen when you have a pulley as the requirement for air and a free flowing filter will reduce the negative psi which builds up in the inlet.

I've only had my GT CAI on for 3 days and I've driven 300miles with it already and I love it!!! The whine is so nice a loud when you are giving it some beans. But when driving slowly you cant hear it at all!! I drilled 2 holes through to the back and I have found the car more responsive, exhaust tips have stayed clan and havent sooted up and it accelorates smother. Highly recommend!!!!
