Only had the car for a couple of days and already have a problem with the infamous run flats IE one tyre flat which i presume you cant get repaired so new tyre needed:(

The other thing is I'm not sure if i can hear a wheel bearing crumbling or its just tyre roar from the tyres but not ever having run flats or drive a mini before for that matter I'm not sure,, you help would be appreciated.

Also the car had the TLC pack but for some odd reason the last owner had the car serviced at a none mini garage! Would that make the TLC pack now invailed or can i just carry on with it.

Cheers
Tom

Hello Tom,

Sadly with RSC tyres it is not recomended that they are repaired. I know that ATS have recently advertised that they can but I wouldn't. The idea of run-flats are improved safety and peace of mind, so why compromise that IMHO.

Wheel bearings are not uncommon on MINI, does the "note" sound change when steering from let to right? Will change as you load and unload the bearing.

As for the TLC: In my experience as long as the car was serviced to BMW dealer standards with OEM parts then there is no reason for them to void your TLC package or any remaining warranty. How many non BMW services has it had?

I will have a chat with someone at work tomorow to confirm my thoughts.

Regards
Lee

Hi Lee,

The car has had two none gen services one at 25842 which is ticked "inspection 1" and the other at 29498 which they have ticked "inspection2" but what is interesting is that no brake fluid changes have been done!

Im not sure about the bearing noise changing i will check tomorrow, and a new tyre it is then!!!! Do the run flats make a lot of road noise then?

In terms of noise, the run flats are not overly loud in comparison to non RSC. Most people comment on the vehicles harsh ride characteristics, which figures given the increased regidity of the tyre sidewalls.

Im not sure how the dealer will deal with the two non dealer services. As for the brake fluid.....it prob has been changed at some point and just not had the book updated.

If you have no luck at the dealer feel free to give me a shout.

Changing from Run Flats to normal tyres made awesome differnce to handling of my car and drive as Lee states, but then I loose the security of having a run flat now... still if your going runflats I found that the dunlop ones were far better than the pirelli.... incidently I have a couple of nearly new prielli if you were in desperate need of one.

Thats some weird servicing!

When you are at the dealers ask them to check if any services have been recorded or not as its all on the computer! Crazy that someone would pay to service a car thats free to service........shock ing....

Update, Went to the dealers today and as far as the TLC goes i have to wait until its last service IE just before 5 years or 50.000mls and they will do that one and submit it to BMW with fingers crossed, if they pay then i will extend the cover for a further three years.
The tyre problem believe it or not was a leak from the side of the rim and not a puncture which apparently is quit common so £10 quid and job done and as for as the tyre noise, well both Mini and the tyre place said that run flats are a noisy tyre and as the noise does not change when cornering etc it will be the tyres:)

I bought my Cooper from a Kia main dealer cry.png and they serviced it before I picked it up. They ticked the Inspection 1, and then about 6 months later I took it to Wood BMW in Hook for a service on the TLC package - no problem at all and they carried out Inspection 2. Although they did sting me for brake fluid & oil etc.
Car will be 5 years old later this year - so also considering the £300 for the TLC XL package for another 3 years. Can't decide - might just change the car instead- always fancied a Cooper S! But I suppose it adds to the sale value if I put the TLC XL package on it.
