P&SMOC are organising for around 20 vehicles to travel over to the French/Belgian border 16 - 19 October (Thursday to Sunday) to stay just outside Lille at the ETAP hotel.

Planned Itinerary so far:

Dates: 16 - 19 October 2008.
Locations: Lille (Ypres) & Arras (Albert)
Cost: Aiming for less than £200 per car, based on two people per car. This does not include FOOD, PETROL, SHANDY!

Ferry from Dover to Dunkirk Thursday 16 October (earliest sailing we can reasonably get.)

Drive to Lille Etap Hotel - 40 miles.

Link to Etap Hotel.

Currently the hotel is showing €46 (£31 ish) per room per night.

Thursday and Friday (morning?) - approx 50 miles to Albert to visit:

Thiepval Memorial - Memorial to the Missing of the Somme - visitors centre.
Beaumont Hamel - Newfoundland Memorial and existing trenches.
Lochnagar crater - bloody great hole in the ground!
Delville Wood - South African Memorial.
Vimy Ridge - Trenches and tunnels.

Visit in Arras itself as there's lots to look at.

Plus lots more if we have time!

Saturday

Up to Ypres (Ieper) (staying in the hotel in Lille)

Sanctuary Wood & Hill 62 - Preserved Trenches and Museum
Passchendaele & Museum
In Flanders Fields Museum - Excellent (according to my Dad!) museum in Ypres.
Last Post at Menin Gate - Ypres, 8pm Saturday. The gate has lots to look at before the very emotional Last Post ceremony too. See this thread for Last Post.

Back to the Hotel in Lille on Saturday night.

Sunday

Pootle back up to Dunkirk for lunchtime crossing back to Dover and then home.

Monday - recover, celebrate and start planning 2009!

-------------------- -------------------- -

Speaking to Keith B and a couple of other SCNM members last night they suggested I advertise the run here too.

I realise that this is very early in the year, but I would like to get it organised asap. If you have any suggestions for improvements then we are always happy to hear them.

I hope to provide 1 run t-shirt for the driver (others will be available at extra cost), a run plaque and stickers for the money.
-------------------- --------------------

The event is also advertised at P&SMOC's forum.

I hope to have around 20 cars (40 ish) people for this year, although
we could accommodate a few more if the interest is there.

Currently I have the following names from P&S :

1. Collin & Rach.
2. George & Joy.
3. Cookie Monster + 1
4. Luke & Emily
5. Laurence +1
6. Graeme & louise (dependent on time off)
7. Kaz and Lawrence
8. Matt & Charli
9. Daze + 1
10. Adam + 1

Which potentially leaves at least 10 car spaces. If you are interested then please can you add your name to the list? If you wish to speak to me, please PM me and I will happily send you my phone number.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for posting this Collin. I might be interested as I've not been accross the channel in the MINI yet.

I need to wait till later in Feb before I can commit as I will be in a better position to know what my funds are like for this year. Have just had to pay £1600 on MINI for clutch/flywheel and also got £400 excess to pay on insurance claim. Hoping I get a nice big bonus and pay raise end of Jan.

Trip to the ring would be nice but I don't think my funds will go that far.  Need to find someone that would like to come along if I do decide to go.

Collin this sounds really great and I hope that you get loads of takers.

Unable to do those dates - already commited elsewhere I regret to say

If you get the chance to remember our recently fallen heroes whilst you are there - and the places that you are visiting are a truly awesome experience - then there are numerous young men and women seriously injured in both Headley Court and our 3 hospitals in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

See links below and my Avatar

Thanks and good fortune for your trip to La France

Folks - Just to let you know that things are progressing a pace on this event. We now have ferry costs (£39) and we are just confirming the hotel costs.

We have expressions of interest from 14 people now and I would love to fill the rest of the space (6 cars) up with MINIs!

Most of the organisation will happen over on the other site, but if you are interested then PLEASE reply here with your details and I will add them over there. (saves you having to sign up at both forums!

Minis In The Trenches

Folks

The website has been running for a few days now. We have reasonable content up there and I ask two favours:

1. Please can anyone interested in going register on the website. This will enable us to give out information via email as well as put it on the site, on here and on SCNM.

2. Please can we have your feedback on the site? What does it need? What would you like to see? Within reason we can get anything on there so your imagination is the limit!

We now have 16 people signed up, with expressions of interest. As stated previously, I would LOVE to take some MINIs over with us, so if you're interested please let us know.

Collin
Thanks
