Yup !! I think Dave was going to look at having Donors appear under donors names, like the privilege thing on M2, to help encourage others to donate - that in itself would probably bring in some more donations. Where is Dave

For you?

No chance

Sorry bobbi is well ahead of you in the "becoming a mod on here" stakes

That means he has no chance ever; you can work out I assume that your odds are even lower...

...sorry Arron

Ah who needs to be a mod....

With my ego and popularity, I would lose all that by being a mod.

People come to me anyway for problems before they go to the mods.

Well you all have a good day now!

I'm gobsmacked that you can spell ego and popularity; let alone understand the meaning :o

Message is in my response mainly Arron

Please promise yourself to work on your people skills in the next 5 years?

This thread has had me cracking up!

Anyway, My 2p...

I have seen some clubs split and some eventually de-form because of rules and ego's. I'm glad to say ECMC is NOT one of them.
We've been working as a 'proper' club for 2 and a half years...and no spats to date. Clubs can work, as there are hundreds of proper classic mini clubs to show that. Maybe that's why ECMC works, because we have lots of classic mini owners in the club too.

It's very hard work, but I think totally worth it. But if you're only looking to pay website costs, then the best idea has to be raffles. We have these too, and the funds go towards all the club costs, with our latest fund-raising going towards a new club stand flag

I voted on that before but left no comment. Looks to full of banter now... but saying that I did pay a 10 per year for an old club. Perhaps we should go smaller fee and do one event per year (mayb pilot next year with MMM if we do it again) where we charge a small (ie 1) per car. That way we could raise what else we needed. On a club official point of view you would then need a treasuer effectivley and possibly a clubs and societies business account, because for sombody else to run that through their own accoutn woudl be money laundering. Obviously if we needed to do that I can provide the banking advice we need, however Im not willing to look after the actual funds as such.

incidently, not to double post, but we need to try to keep this all as cool as possible because part of the charm for SCNM over other clubs for me was the fact that it was sort of a friends thing rather than gym membership

....and everyone hates gyms!

Or is that just me? :o

The laid back approach to the club is best and obviously seems to be working well! Lets just keep the magic going!

I have not joined in this debate/debarcle up till now  seems to me that none of the suggestions in the poll hold any water.
The nearest one is the £1 per member.
have just done a quick count of the membership and give or take a couple, there are 133 at present that have joined and NOT posted any comments in any thread Possibly they just like reading the info/action/junk that is posted in the forums
There are an equal amount that have posted 10 or less postings.

Assuming you bring in a fee is it not feasible that the majority if not all of these sleeping members (for want of a better term) will just leave. Therefor reducing the membership.
If you are looking to cover the cost of running the site it is going to have to be at least £5/person possibly in thruth £10.

Looking at the figures in a purests view

Present membership = 345

None posters = 133
Posters with less than 10 = Approx 133

If the last two were to leave because they felt that paying for something and getting very little in return apart from community spirit.
You would be left with 79 members which equates to at present terms and conditions £6.38 per person to keep the site at its current level.
I know that not all of these people would leave BUT it is a POSSIBILITY.
To ask someone to pay/contribute to something they have to feel they are getting something for it. Be it extra gallery space, members only area, sales section whatever.
I for one would be happy to contribute towards the site but feel that it needs to give more than the promise of good friendship

Any of the proposed suggestions takes time and commitment which is not an easy or enviable task.

So to sum up, you are left with two or three choices as I see it.
1) Change nothing and hope people thro good will would contribute to the running of the site.

2) Charge a flat fee for everyone but give something in return.

3) Do the first choice plus Sponsor involvement.

You now begin to see how complex the issue becomes.
The Suggestions and Solutions are endless so simplicity should rule the day

Sorry for the ramble and if none of it is any good then I will not be upset if it is torn to shreds

I dont really know the answer at the moment either.... we do get half the cost covered by avertising and sponsorship however. And a few kind donations throughout the year help alot and they know who they are. So Thank you The site has now been where it is now for 13 months so one donation a month.

Stats:

13 Donations since the site started amounting to £200 (Big thanks to Max and Dora as they really put their hands in their pockets)
2 Gallery Subsciptions (Thanks Gordon and John)
2 Advertisers (thanks to Matt and Roland for their quick uptake)
Since I started doing stickers we are -£10 but add to that the money from Neil its +£2 now.

Personally I would like to see more subscriptions to gallery features or maybe offer an annual subscription that is recognised somehow and taken up by those who use the site most often would be nice.
I dont want to see Max and Dora giving so much money this year as its not fair and although I end up making up the difference that we fell short in the last year I would prefer it to be less this year. I'm hoping we will be 4 advertisers strong this year and there wont be the need for large donations.
