Just another idea that I thought of, to throw into the pot

When I spoke to Gareth the other day about the old style SCNM stickers he said that there had not been enough interest

Anyway I know we currently we have the white ones on sale to all and sundry How about charging say £10 for a year or something and having a specific/different SCNM sticker. Not sure what we would do after the first year though :o

Perhaps rather than being a mainly online based club, with a huge number of members, the majority of which seem to be inactive

We form into a proper club, with a commitee monthly meetings at a different location may be each month. With a subscription paid by those who live in the area and attend regular meetings.

Also by setting up a catchment area (maybe South of Salisbury ) and then may be have honorary membership (decision by vote of permanent members) for a lesser membership fee for those who live outside this area and wish to be part of the community and can be bothered to attend events, such as those from Birmigham or James in Scotland (no not James he could pay full whack )but obviously wouldn't be able to attend a lot of events

I am against all ideas of a formal club, as I have seen too many friends falling out with each other over the years.

Too many egos, too many issues, too many disagreements and resentments etc...

It always ends in tears!!!

DON'T DO IT!!!

Got to agree 100% with that - always ends up a mess and fragmentation of the group.

What is the objective here - it was to cover running costs of the site yes? why now is it trying to change the site? If people are happy with the site, which they seem to be, why change that, why lose the focus on the original objective which is to cover the running costs!

I'd like to hear from Dave who has been very quiet but is obviously the man to listen to as he's bearing the costs !!

Martin

The "Severns" are a proper club (no offence here) and they have a mainly ineffective AGM (which everyone mainly ignores) (again no offence intended - it's just the way it is).

Not sure about a "permanent members" vote either. Who's permanent and how are they defined? For instance Soggy seems to be permanently on here but some would argue he's not a real member? Me for one.

Not attracted by the idea of a catchment area either as we have people as far south as Arron (on the beach ) and as far North (but not that far to never ever turn up) Soggy (Northants) who never turns up and James in Scotland who does

I suppose ultimately we will end up with a £1 a year membership + what we can raise from sundry sales and donations.

You have personal experience and can offer us a classic example then Bob?

Like MINI2 perhaps?

I heard it had gone a bit downhill on there recently but would'nt know and don't really care to be honest.

So that's why you defected into here then?

We'd love to hear more from you; with all your obvious experience please.

Especially if we can avoid a mess and fragmentation of the group eh?

And for your information Dave has not been bearing the costs of running our site on his own but that's none of your business really.

The original objective remains - to cover running costs.

So please may we return to the topic?

Running costs.

Thanks

"Funding mainly

Our (plural) site costs us £42 pcm to keep it running smoothly.

So now we are looking at options to keep it going financially..."

ive always been against a commite as dora rightly said its another thing for people too fall out on donations yes but a flat rate of 5 quid seems to be a fair comparmise in my books true i may not be doing as many events as befoure but for the sheer use of the site i feel its more than fair if we end up with any exesse at the end of the year there should be a vote among the mods/ admin as to say if we needed more server space or give whats left to charity

Ditto what James said and what I wrote earlier, lets make it £5 each per year and have done with it, I'll gladly cough up evan though I'm MINI less

...and I also think the constant goading aimed at Soggy is getting a little tiresome IMHO  and this part of my post will probably be deleated by a Mod no doubt.

That will not happen!!! There are personal attacks being made quite frequently at the mo which do need to stop however...

£5 per annum has my vote.....mo more changes for me :

No personal attacks from me - all comers are welcome on here

If members wish to go off-topic and give me their 2p worth then they should be willing to expand on what they have said?

or not go off topic in the first place? (is my preference)

I'd prefer everyone to stay on topic and stay calm in here please
