No I thought of this totally sober and the fact that we all work away on here on your behalf and you have yet to actually join us for a run or meet?

Thus you are fair game to be charged for non-attendance?

On a serious note you could do us all a favour and set up a MMM or Northampton Club website and leave us alone?

Their gain would definitely be our loss

Looking forward to collecting a pound of flesh from you on the day you turn up to support us (if you ever do?)

No malice intended and thank you for your other points which are duly noted

Max

charging people who dont attend runs is wrong, that's like a leisure centre charging people who dont use the swimming pool rather than the people who do

priv membership on MINI2 gets you a forum no one bothers to use, it also gets you a blog, which no one uses... a gallery which hardly anyone uses as there are free options out there - all in all it was a waste of £10 in my eyes...

i have learnt from experience that i will never pay for club membership ever again. you can get most of a club's worth from what they provide free, unless they lock things down so much that the only option is to pay a premium or leave - most people leave (in the case of places like PGAC in the Peugeot scene). membership for places like PSOOC just got you free entry into a particular event and a magazine. it wasnt worth the hassle really. they never turned away non members, nor did they offer items to members that weren't available to non members.

so, i have voted for no membership. the costs to run a forum such as this should be considered as throw away expense. i host a lot of sites on my server and dont request any money back, as i have taken the decision to pay for the server. much like i dont expect people to pay for petrol money when i give them a lift - it's part of owning the car and offering the lift in the first place.

Thanks Russ good point and well made.

We may have received an offer today from a member which would solve our problems - I'm sure that Dave will post up an announcement as soon as it's confirmed

I know of someone who asked for 5 GBP petrol money, and took the passenger to a cash point to get the money. When the machine gave out a tenner, he took it without giving back the change! B'stard!!!

He had a MINI, not sure if he still does, and he is not on SCNM, thank goodness!

I think the £1 annual fee would be sufficient. The remainder of the £500 will be made up by the main site sponsors like myself and GTT.

A small annual fee would be the fairest way IMHO.

As I don't attend that many runs each year I actually think it's unfair to charge on runs as people like me who only go on 2/3 runs per year or others who go on non would not be contributing as much as the more active members.

We could also introduce a raffle at some events, this could have small prizes funded by the raffle itself or maybe donated from members. The excess proceeds of the raffle could then go towards running the site and if there is still some money left over it could also go towards funding events (such as South Downs Run or MMM) as I'm sure the organisers are actually subsidising such events for others.

We have a raffle every month at my local Triumph Club car meets and any excess is used to subsidise our annula Xmas bash in the form of reduced meal costs and a free drink or two and this seems to work quite well. The national entity of the Club is run as a business and has a membership fee which mostly goes on printing and postage costs (and running a pretty comprehensive website)but the local areas have to be self funded and the raffle seems to fit the bill well.

In terms of SCNM gallery bandwidth costs, we could strictly limit the bandwidth to just enough space for avatars, signature pics and some basic pics of members cars and actively encourage people to use free photo and video hosting sites such as http://photobucket.com for any additional pictures eg attachments to posts. As an example, the Jaguar Forum I use has no galleries at all and the only way to include photo's in posts is to provide an external link, however they actively publicise and suggest using photobucket to include pictures in posts.

why not at events charge £15 for an account but give a gift pack in return. stickers, etc. that could be cool. overall though i dont object to charging for the site, its not fair that one person should have to pay.

My 2 pence worth

Charge £5 per member per year, end of. If they don't pay then the membership is suspended and then deleated with a warning beforehand.
That would stop the ppls coming on here to sell stuff/ Troll etc.

Anyone who wants to use a huge amount of gallery space could then donate on top of the £5.
Or limit the gallery space so everyone has the same small amount, ppls are quite capable of deleating and adding new pictures to make their own gallerys fresher every so often, it also makes them more intersting to look at without the same pictures on there all the time.
