This will be an open pit lane track day.

£99 per car

Open Pit Lane = Loads of Track Time
Coaching Available From Experienced Motorsport Professionals
Fun & Friendly Atmosphere
Firm But Fair Driving Standards Rules

Similar to RAF Marham but the main runway is used by a glider club not fast jets so hopefully less FOD for us on the day

To book just telephone 0870 787 2116.

This is a www.motorsport-events.com event.

This is a really great track

Abingdon airfield is an MOD site now occupied by the army and also used for Glider training. It was opened in 1932 and many RAF Squadrons served there until the RAF moved out in December 1992.

It is in excellent condition, has lots of top quality tarmac and is sure to be a firm favourite on the track day calendar. Our track design has a great mix of corners, using the huge amount of space available and long straights with speeds in excess of 100 mph possible in most cars. This is a fantastic venue, not to be missed by any enthusiastic driver!

Noise limit is 100dB at 4,500rpm.

The noise testing rules at Abingdon are 100 dB(A) at 0.5 metres and at 4500 rpm, for cars we require this to be at 3/4 of maximum rpm. This rule will be enforced rigidly, so if you have any doubts consider adding extra silencing. Please also note that due to a number of reasons competition cars can not be allowed at these events.

There is a petrol station within 10 minutes of the track, with Shell Optimax also available locally and plenty of local Hotels and B&B's.

Abingdon is very well located being within easy reach of the M40 motorway, south of Oxford.

Just noticed that this Track Day clashes with another scnm event:

http://scnm.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1477&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

This is a plea to all

If you are organising an event and posting up a Thread in here please put the event in the SCNM Calendar to assist in avoiding clashes

Welcome in here Bhoz...

A similar track day at Bedford Autodrome or any other racing circuit costs between £199-299...

...so this really is good value.

The event sponsors (who run the track) take their percentage and the rest is profit.. in this case the proceeds will go to charity - the Army Benevolent Fund and Abingdon Station Welfare Fund.

So, everyone wins and we get a great deal on a day burning rubber

Wow, I didnt know they were so expensive. I think I will do this then.

Just need to check the car over tomorrow for tyres and rear brake pads to make sure I have no hidden costs.

OK please let me know if you sign up

Also if you have not been on a track before it's worth getting some professional tuition

Failing that you can drive mine around and I'll coach you as you go :o

Cool, thanks for the offer.

I threw myself in at the deep end last year and did Castle Coombe during the mini action day. Had two sessions; the first I took steadily, the second I drove like I stole it and didnt crash. Would be happy for a passenger to help me improve though. Would worry about driving yours though.

Max, going to see if I can get the full day of from work and sign up for this. Even though it is the same day as the Rallye Sunseeker I should be able to get home in time to watch the night stage in Bournemouth.

I'll also check with Hoang when he gets back from Vietnam later this month about bringing the mx-5 or sharing my MINI.

Oh, whats the rules on passengers? Do they have to pay anything? Can they hire a skid lid?

By open track day, does that mean its not like 15 minute sessions like at CC, but you just go in and out when you want?

Ohhh, this just became my birthday present! I forgot it was my birthday on the 21st Feb. My 30th, no less. (Just dont tell the women, they all think I look younger )

Passengers are normally free and get given a different arm band to the drivers. If you have paid to drive for the day then you can drive anyone else's car if they let you and you can be a passenger. Most tracks have a skid lid to hire but you will need to check when booking.

Open track normally means you go out when you like and come in when you like. Sometimes they have a limit to the number of cars out on track at once so you might have to wait at the end of the pit line for someone to come in. Normally if it is an open bit lane you aim to stay out for around 15min then come in and let the car and yourself cool down. Don't forget to also do at least one cool down lap and to leave the handbrake off when you come in otherwise you could warp the brake disc's.

Well you missed seeing his car run around Brands hatch on Dec 4th. Will be good to see what it is like with a larger track and a longer staright. Just hope he is up for it when he gets back in the country. He is also talking about having the engine rebuilt to handle around 400bhp this year. 8O

Just get booked in and we'll see on the day

Just cause you got the LSD and I don't

Might have to get a rear anti-sway bar I suppose?

Or just keep full power on into the corners 8O 8O

Good luck for your move Tony - get her packing
