will the stut brace clear the sound kit air filter tube that sits on top of the fuse box ??

could be interested if it does

I will see if Rolands fitted on yet to a sound kit.

Anyone else know? Dave JCWCooper? Did you have one?

yes it fits over the sound kit, there are some piccys on mini 2 of my car with it fitted, all we did was remove the battery cover Roland could modify the cover but i just decided it was easyer not to have it.

hope this helps

Dave.

I'm very doubtful but still only one way to find out really is try it. All depends if the chassis is infact the same. Will see if I can find out if I can.

I think I'm up for this! My car is a May '04 Cooper (pre facelift), normally running on 17" with Pirellii Euforia tyres (at the moment).

A couple of questions:

Is the Upper Brace the single most effective in stopping the leaping about and tramlining? (Real Question: What is the best combination at the lowest cost?)

Will the Red powder coat clash with my Chili Red (bit of a girly question, I know!)?

Thanks all

The upper brace will make the biggest different according to Roland and will stiffen the front of the car a large amount. So no bouncy roll as everything moves about. So for lowest price for the most improvement it must be the upper brace.

Not sure about girly cause i've spent ages trying to decide! I've gone with the clear coated one so it compliments my larger intercooler instead of blending into the black body work. All depends if you want it to stand out or not. What colour is your roof? Red?

Red/white roof, I've no particular desire for it to stand out, just to keep the wheels in contact with the road!

Thanks for your responses.

Soggy,

Just looked through previous post's and it would see the upper brace does fit a standard cooper model. Minus the battery cover though.

See posts by jcwcooper here ==> http://www.scnm.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=686&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

Thanks for that - might be of interest to me then.

Does removing the battery cover cause any potential problems or is the cover purely cosmetic? There is an after market battery cover for the cooper which allows strut braces to be fitted, have a search on MINI2 for it

Anyone know if there are the braces that Roland said would help sort out the handling of the convertible over on MINI2 a while back?

Also how does the upper one compare to the JCW one I presently have on there, would it still need swapping to get full benifit or could I just have the lower ones?

I'm interested in the GB, all depending on total price and timing of it

Both the lowers can be fitted yourself aslong as you have a torque ratchet and jack/stand, also the bolts are listed as single use so should be replaced or reused with a thread lock which is probably why they are single use. You're only removing a couple of the subframe bolts so nothings going to move as there's still plenty to hold it in place. I've been told they all come with detailed fitting instructions.

Lower Strut Brace:
Part number is 31126757199, maybe superceeded by new part number of 31106772432. 90p each + Vat = £2.12

You will need a 16mm socket for this and torque to 59NM.

I'll get them ordered on Monday, so should have it all done next week

Just brought and paid for the 2 lower braces, not sure if Roland included this in your GB, but might be worth mentioning to him as it would get your numbers up
