Just to let you know that I am in negotiation with the site owners of the old RAF Abingdon Airfield (now Dalton Barracks just off the A34 at Abingdon) to get some reasonably affordable open pit lane track days going

It looks like it could be a 4.5 mile tarmac track subject to site inspection.

The person at the barracks is a work colleague whom I know quite well and his boss works quite close to me

Nick and Andrey@Lohen Racing have said that they are keen to get on board as event sponsors/specialists

Initial meetings on site should take place in September, followed by a meeting on site with Nick and the site owners...

...watch this space I'll keep you informed on progress

Indeed it would be...

It used to be a VC10 (I think) and C130 with a few fast jets type base so it has a nice long and wide runway

I last drove down the main runway one evening after flying had stopped - in 1984 in my Reliant Scimitar

Got up to 138mph then ran out of tarmac

Woah it would seem that I was mis-informed

This from my friend Simon at Abingdon:

Hi M

I didn’t realise that we had a mutual interest, excellent. I have a 1293cc 1972 Mini Clubman that I have used for hill climbs and sprints for many years now (and have just brought a new toy as well!).

The track days at Abingdon have really taken off, the company that I brought in are called ‘Motorsports Events.com’, they organise track days at Keevil, Hullavington to name but a few. I negotiated with them 4 free places on every event for soldiers in Abingdon + racing driver tuition. Why don’t you come on the next track day here on the 15 Sept and I can let you have one of the free places, the soldiers don’t usually take all the places. Perhaps your club could book slots for the other days later in the year its only £109 for a full track day with Motorsports Events. (20 Oct, Nov 17, 8 Dec)

Give me a call if you can make it.

Simon

Unfortun ately I can't do Fri 15 Sep as I shall be in London....

Here's a link to the website....
