Minijo and Mico1 are thrilled to announce…..

Isle of Wight mini Run 2006
September 22nd - 24th

Ok… Our first run on the South Downs (thanks Lee and Co.) was so amazing and fabulous – and so inspirational that we promised to organise one here on the Isle of Wight too! Initially we thought June 2007, but so many of you were keen to do it much quicker than that so September it is!

The Isle of Wight, as many of you are aware has many fabulous roads for driving on. Here are six amazing reasons to join us on this run:

1. The long costal military road – a cliff top drive of approx 15 miles that is virtually straight with fabulous views.
2. Hundreds of tiny rural roads that twist and turn and enable you to put your mini through its paces.
3. The infamous Zig Zag road at Ventnor, pretend you’re at Monaco (Lol!)
4. Steep climbs up downs where we can stop for photo shoots with fabulous views as backdrops!
5. And possibly a sticker to mark the event!
6. And Jo and Sarah promise to drink another bottle of wine and get very silly again!

Have we convinced you yet? How can you not come? Lol!

So here goes….. Proposed* Activities:

Arrive at campsite and set up your tent.

The cost of the camping for two nights with Mini and tent for two people is: £9.50 per night, although watch this space - a special offer is being organised for us! (Me confirming you have booked is enough - honest!)

Ther are no chalets on this campsite - but there is a PUB that is right next door and they run B&B for those of you not brave enough to camp! If this is the case please book the Inn yourself. You will not feel left out staying in the pub, it is right next to us so you can drink and be merry and stagger back to bed in the early hours!

Campsite: http://www.stoats-farm.co.uk/index.htm
Pub: http://www.highdowninn.com/htm/thebar.htm

Provide own food for this night, a communal campfire will be lit for a good community chin wag opportunity- but we promise not to make you sing “Kum by Ya”!

Mini run: Round the Island and through the middle, climbing twisting and turning, all the thrills of the roller coaster!

Lunch, we hope, will be provided by Isle of Wight College catering Students*: buffet style cost to be around £5

Three stops planned for in lovely places, plenty of time for photos!

Back at campsite 5pm - 6pm

Back at campsite we will put on a BBQ There will need to be a charge for all this of about £7 including BBQ, prizes and Band previous night– let us know what you think! We will also run a mini quiz with mini prizes! And finally have a campfire to early hours of morning to keep us all warm on those cooler Sept evenings!

Pack up and relax! If you are interested in staying on the Island for the day we can sort out a pub lunch as a group. Let us know and we can book ‘The Folly’, a fantastic waterside pub that is infamous for its menu and location. (Prices: £7– 15) All popular pubs on the island get very busy so we need to book in advance! The Folly is close to Red Funnel ferry terminal -so on your way home stop for a final bit of fun - go home on a high note after the boring packing up of tent etc!
Again book on this post if joining us for meal!

There are two companies running car ferry services to the Isle of Wight:
Red Funnel run from Southampton – East Cowes www.redfunnel.co.uk (current price they are quoting is £57.50 based on two in a car; day return £32:98)
Wight Link run from Portsmouth – Fishbourne and Lymington – Yarmouth www.wightlink.co.uk ( current price they are quoting £71 based on two in a car; day return £46.60)
Ferries do get booked up – so we advise you book once you have decided to come!

The cost of a weekend return is usually fairly expensive £30 – £70 – so look out for special offers on their websites or ring the companies and ask what they can offer. We could try a group booking – but that would mean Sarah and I handling your money in advance –( something we are not keen to do as it will then be deemed as an official event and we will need insurance!) so please make your own arrangements! Dave is looking into Mini offers with his mates on Red Funnel so you never know!

Directions to campsite from ferry terminals will be posted here, as of course will run details – so watch this space!

: Meet at Stoats Farm Campsite - first field at 10:30am fo 11am start. Directions to campsite will be posted here shortly.
Most people are getting the 9am ferry from southampton and 10:30pm ferry back if you want to join them on Town Quay at 8:15am : http://www.scnm.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=download&id=652

Please reply to this post to register your details and to make suggestions (clean ones!). Even if you have already done it once - please do it again so that we know if the change of date has affected you or not.
We need to know:

1) If you are coming
2) If you are camping (if not - will you be here for evenings)
3) If you want a pub meal on Sunday lunch time

Please can we keep the banter out of here and where it belongs:

http://scnm.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=339

Thanks

Can I ask ya a few questions Jo?

1) Are there such things as group deals on the ferries?

2) How much is petrol on the IoW? Just need to know as it maybe *cheaper* to fill up over here....

Thank you Jo!

Unfortuneatly the date clashes witha round Britain Charity run I'm doing that weekend with the Triumph Club (London - John O'Groats - Lands End and back to London, 2000 miles in circa 48 hours in a 38 year old 2.7L tuned Triumph Vitesse Convertible not for the faint hearted!). The Cookie's will therefore be unable to make the inagural IOW Mini event which is a pity as Jubee, myself and the Kids really always really enjoy the Island.

Hope the run/weekend is a real success though and it's repeated again next year.

Sounds like you have some good plans and zig zag hill in Ventnor is certainly awesome, we always do that road every year on our Triumph event over in IOW that takes place in May. Th other road I really love to drive is the Military Road along the South West Coast, providing there isn't a speed trap in place

Just checked ferry crossings and seems its like £25 cheaper to go from Southampton to East Cowes, then it is to go from Lymington to Yarmouth :o :o

Anyway.

Now. The details I did were: Return Ticket, One Passenger

Saturday 23rd - Leave Southampton at 09:00

Saturday 23th - Leave East Cowes at 22.30.

Could someone just confirm that for me? And Im thinking that if we all booked individually, but then met up before hand and then enjoyed a MINI cruise over to the Isle?

Fair enough Arron but it is a weekend event.

So maybe prices for leaving Friday night and returning Sunday might be a better idea?

Anyone wanting to go for just a day can make their own arrangements.

If everybody books the same ferry then we just all board together and we can all sail across in a convoy Just everyone needs to agree on what times for people going for just the day and times for people staying over then you'll run into everyone else at Town Quay.

Band will now be on Friday night.
Still lots going on Saturday night too!

Some updates:

WOO HOO! Special offer for us MINI lot - £6 per tent per night - up to two people in tent each extra person in tent £2 per night - how fab is that!!

Please answer these three questions if you can:
1) are you coming
2) If yes are you camping and how many people/tents (if not camping will you be joining us in evenings?)
3) Are you coming to have Sunday lunch with us and if so how many?

Please check first post for updates!

Nearer the time, I will get more details together for people day tripping it, or going over for Saturday and Sunday, and then if you wouldn't mind relaying that on to people, that would be great!

Thanks Jo!

Well looks like Mini Friz wont be meeting us at Southampton then.

And obviously doesn't mind shelling out an extra 20 quid for the Lymington -> Yarmouth.

And ladies...

If you PM Foxy_MINI (Nicci), she might be able to get this event put into the ModernMINI magazine that she helps produce.

That way, ya should hopefully get more attendees!
