I believe it is some kind of bug with the forum software, and found this thread advising how to get around the issue, hope this helps

If it's any consolation, I'm having the same problem, and getting the same message about 'must be less than 80 pixels' (which my image is).

Even pasting the URL from the gallery where my wannabe avatar image now sits didn't work either.

Mini-poser is helping at the mo, but if anyone else has an idea or workaround I'd be grateful.

Cheers - SteveC

This should work as I updated my avatar yesterday.

Make sure the image is in your gallery and right click on the pic. Go to properties and copy the URL. Then go to "Your Account" and then "Your Info". At the bottom of the page paste the URL into the blank box named "link to off-site avatar". Click on save avatar and hopefully it has worked.

If it doesn't then I'm not sure why. Pic needs to be a jpeg but the size shouldn't be a problem if you use this way. If you do stil have problems I could try logging in as you and doing as this worked for Lorimor_black.

Ahh. I think that worked. Seems I was making two mistakes - taking the image URL from the address bar of the browser; and not using the 'off-site' URL link in the avatar control.

If this post has a pic of my number plate as my avatar, than all is well.

Thanks for the help. By the way, noticed your fine car on Poole Quay last Friday. Not that it's at all distinctive with its huge No.11 decal.

Cheers - SteveC

Thanks. And thanks for your help too. What you sent me earlier was correct, I just mininterpreted it. Probably 'cos I can be thick when it suits me.

By the way: While experimenting with 'My Gallery' to fix this avatar issue, I accidentally uploaded a pic of my first Cooper S to the wrong gallery space, so it went on to the Mini Runs one, entitled Mini United 2005, and I can't see a way to remove it. Should I be concerned? Apologise? Or perhaps throw myself off a tall building in shame?

If you follow the instructions that John wrote in a post a few up, it should help you get it showing under your user name.

If that still don't work, Ill try something else for ya.

But see if that works first!

I am trying to upload my avatar, but it says it has to be a jpg - which it is. So can someone help me sort this? I just don't get it.

Sorry, didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been covered.

At the top of this window underneath the advert, there are 4 options.

One of those is "Profile".

Click on that and enter your details in the relevant boxes Ruthie.

It might work then!

Aaron, I've done that about 10 times now. My avatar is a jpg and works in other forums. There must be a glitch somewhere. Can someone help me with this please? I know it's not the end of the world, but it should work and it doesn't.

Hey ruthie!

Its the same process as doing your Signature (Upload it to the gallery and get the url to the image itself) except put the url into the Upload Avatar from URL section under profile in the forums and click Submit. Should work fine as long as it meets the 80 x 80 pixels.

Sorry the general upload bit is broken but hope the above is some help.
