OK here is where you may post up any tyre recommendations

I'll start

After 3 years of runflats setting off my dsc blinking light I changed to Goodyear Eagle F1s (aka GS-D 3s)

Great in the wet or dry (now on my third set + on my MGF)

However I have now found a great all-rounder for road or track use - a slightly softer compound than the GS- D3s.......>

....the refore more grippy wet or dry.

Enter the Meister of all-rounders:

TOYO PX T1-R £62 per corner less VAT from Micheldever Tyres

Taking these to Bedford Autodrome next Saturday

However what prompted me to post this particular tyre up was my drive from Yorkshire today....

High speed stability through standing water and through the twisties was superb

Anyway as I say if you have your own recomendations please post them up in here...

Just no runflats; thanks

I know Max said no runflats but, this is the opposdite to a recommendation!

I fitted Pirrelli Eufori runflats all round on my Cooper to replace the original Goodyears earlier this year.

Big Mistake, the car's handling is really skittish now particularly when you go over any parallel white lines . I certainly won't be buying any more Pirelli's when they wear out. :x

I am looking at replacing my tyres soon

I am seriously considering making the jump from runflats, a few times now I have found them to be skittish in wet and greasy conditions.

Would be interested to hear what sizes people have put on 16 inch rims

Toyo T1Rs now on mine too!

215/35/18.

Very sticky tyres indeed even in the wet!

The Pirelli's are terrible and i'd recommend that anyone change from them when ever possible.

Personall y and from experience i've never found a tyre which will perform better than Toyo T1's or Avon ZZ3's. The Avon's i've run on a couple of cars and for a few years, the wet grip is just the best i've ever experience. Traction of the line is amazingly improved. I used them on my old Astra which I used for drag racing and the difference was amazing. When you have nearly 300LBFT of torque and you need to get it onto the road then they were the best choice.

Having only used the Pirrelli runflats and Avon ZZ3's on 17" alloys I can't really say if the goodyears or Toyo's are better.

What I can is the Pirrelli's are not very good in the wet but were actually ok in the dry. I used them on the Brunty track day and had no problems.

The Avon's I now have are great in the wet and being a little softer are fantastic in the dry. With my style of driving, I have so far managed to get about 12,000 miles from them. That is with switching them around every 3,000 miles or so. I think I will make it to about 14,000 miles on them and then change them come Autum. I might give the Toyo's a go and see how they compare.

Tyre sizes:

The diameter of the 195/55-16 tyre/wheel combination is 24.44"

The diameter of the 205/50-16 tyre/wheel combination is 24.07"

This is only a 1% difference. There should be no real difference on the road. For the new tyre size the speedometer and odometer will read approximately 1% lower that the stock tyre.

Just as a point of interest, the diameter of the 175/65-15 is 23.96"

The diameter of the 205/45-17 is 24.26"

The three different tyre/wheel combinations were selected by MINI because they would not have to change the programing for the computer that calculates the speed and distance. The 205/50-16 falls within the stock tyre sizes.

Been doing a bit of homework this afternoon and when I have a bit of cash, I will probably look at getting some 205/50R16 Toyo's as a replacement for the runflats.

I had a look at Lohen's site and did like the Dynamics Alloys, only problem is that after my recent spending spree, I don't think the wife would agree that they are a necessity

ok guys im going to need to replace one of my tyres soon and another not to far from that (fronts) i had been running some tyre pressures for 17s insted of 18s as my dealer was looking for the correct pressures, im going to go non run flats.

if i go from a 40 profile to a 35 i take it that it becomes lower profile.....

my current dunlops are

205/40 R18 82W

im looking at going for some

Toyo T1-R 205/35 R18 Y

oh yeah and Does anyone use the mini mobility system?
Dave.

The tyre size you need is 215/35/18, and dispite this being a lower profile than the 18" run flats, the ride quality will be improved.

I don't know how much the mini mobility system costs, but try getting a couple of 400ml cans of Holts Tyreweld. They cost £9 each from Halfords and a small air compresser, there about £20.

I was down in Polperro yesterday and a 5 series BMW came past with a flat on one of his runflats, hardly noticeable apart from the noise it made :o

Just as a quick question anyone used tyreweld/mini mobility kit in anger ??? More out of curiosity really !

Well after the Bedford Track day I have to report that I was well chuffed with my Toyo T1-Rs.

They are superb in the wet

The track was flooded during the afternoon and these tyres only lost grip at 85mph (too fast) coming out of the chicane on the long straight where I performed a 360 degree spin, witnessed by S&M and REHW :o

Oh well at last I'm no longer a spin virgin

Back to the tyres - I'm gonna move from GS-D 3s to Toyo T1-R as an all year round road tyre (they're more sticky than the GS-D 3s and wear out a bit sooner but at £65 + VAT not too pricy) then go for a set of sticky Toyo 888's for the track
