Being naughty .............![]() Registered Member #15 Joined: Sat Jan 14 2006, 12:00AMLocation: Somewhere in a Welsh Forest Posts: 1644 | Well I just went to a Tyre Dealer in Blandford today, to see if I could get a quote for Toyo's. It was interesting it started OK, yes they could get Toyo's, then they asked if I had them already on the car, at which point I said no I have runflats at the moment. Oh my God, you would have thought I was asking them to take their own lives. I was given a stream of excuses as to why they do not recommend changing from Runflats, including the suspension is set up for runflats, the insurance company (who don't even know whether I have runflats), the rims are specifically designed for runflats. etc etc. They did say that they had done 1 car before  but strongly do not recommend it. Or maybe it was the fact that they have a lovelly big Goodyear Runflat Sign outside and that the non runflats would be cheaper. Hence I walked out and will be going elsewhere, even for tyres for my wifes car as well. I did a little bit of research and it seems that this is a common tactic by some tyre outlets. So why do MINI offer a Mobility kit ?? Why is the Suspension setup on all MINI's no diferent if you have Runflats or Non Runflats ?? Also Pirelli say that non Runflats can be put on Runflat rims !!! Even MINI dealers do not seem to have any problem with people moving over to non Runflats   Support For Our Wounded www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Suspension setup is not a problem. You don't need an expensive MINI-Mobility kit just get 2 cans of tyre weld at £8.50 a can and a mini-compressor that works off the ciggy lighter (about £12 for a swish one I have seen them for a fiver in M1 services shops )Runflats at £120 a corner versus Toyo T1-R at £65 + VAT is no contest.... Try http://www.micheldever.co.uk/ Not too far away from Blandford You can't book a slot and avoid Saturdays as you will q for 2 hours 8O Best time is Monday at 9.00am Support Our Heros http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ http://www.presentsformen.co.uk/product-PFM-Help-for-Heroes-Mug-6461/ http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article492159.ece http://www.artfund.org/queenandcountry/index.php http://www.santalash.co.uk/charity.html

There should be no real difference on the road. For the new tyre size the speedometer and odometer will read approximately 1% lower that the stock tyre. Just as a point of interest, the diameter of the 175/65-15 is 23.96" The diameter of the 205/45-17 is 24.26" The three different tyre/wheel combinations were selected by MINI because they would not have to change the programing for the computer that calculates the speed and distance. The 205/50-16 falls within the stock tyre sizes. Hope this helps? I know have 215/35/18 and there is less than 2mph difference between what my digital speed readout says and my external satnav. 30mph on speedo = 28mph on satnav. Close enough for me! I think at the moment you have 205/40/18s? You will not have any issues / problems putting on 215/35/18. Hope that has answered your worries? Goodyear Eagle F1 (GSD3s)- 205/50-16 x four (for the MINI Cooper S) – £86.75 each total £347.61 at Micheldever Tyres The Toyo PXT1Rs are £353.21 for a set of four so no contest then I would say Support Our Heros http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ http://www.presentsformen.co.uk/product-PFM-Help-for-Heroes-Mug-6461/ http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article492159.ece http://www.artfund.org/queenandcountry/index.php http://www.santalash.co.uk/charity.html

All I need to do is go to my local garage and pay them to remove and fit my new tyres. Total cost should be about £330. Got the tyres from this web site. http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html

Really? I reckon that my T1Rs are slightly more grippy than my GSD3s (and even better in the wet (tested at Bedford in the wet to the limit 8O ) If you want a really sticky tyre why not go for the Toyo 888s? Will do Dave. The Avon's are a great tyre in the wet and dry but then I'm only comparing to the runflats I had on before. I'm hoping these might last me a bit longer than the Avon's.

Exactly and as I know you like to take the tyres to the limit often it will be interesting to see a direct comparison from someone thats run both although arent you going for a different profile?? Right according to TyreTest.com(The site mytyres.co.uk uses) the Toyo's should win....Scores(Lowest being best): Avon ZZ3 2.4 Goodyear GS-D3 2.2 (Let itself down on being noisy, uncomfortable and wearing out quick) Toyo T1-R 1.7 MINI Project Loon : MINIProject.co.uk
