Hi all so my R56 has just topped 16K and it is telling me that i need new front break pads in 1600 miles which is fines im prepared to pay a silly price for new pads. But..... on my computer it says that there is no service until Oct 2009! Surely this cant be right? Going on last year that would mean the car would have done nearly 27k and surely there should be a service way before that? I thought around now time?? Am i wrong?? Should i give BMW a ring??

Also what is checked in the first service i.e. filter? oil change? diagnostics? I ask because i do have the car remapped and it has a dump valve on it. I have no issues removing the valve for the service if it will be noticed but obviously the re-map is a different story. All help is welcomed.

Thanks
James

From what I've heard, when an R56 goes back for a service, it gets fitted with a supercharger and the air scoop mesh is taken off.

But that was a rumour....

James, mine has done nearly 20,000 miles and says it needs a service at about 26,000 miles. I mentionned it to BMW and they say that is all it needs.

I find it all a bit strange that it cannot need a service, or at least a fresh and clean air filter for so many miles. As for brake pads you must be braking hard young man! I will see what mine says but the last time i checked pads weren't for some time.

As for the tuning i think you might be in a ticky situation but it depends where you go. If i was you i would remove what you can. Some places are not a strict as others. The worst they could say is that your warranty does not cover the engine, i would be interested to know how you get on because it has always bothered me.

I think that is why the one click stuff is popular because you can in effect plug in and un plug again??? i could be very wrong.

£198!! How much!

Roland will do discs and pads for that price. Including VAT.

I've just bought new discs and pads all round from him for £265. OK I have to fit them myself but I'm saving nearly £200 for BMW's 2 hours labour.

Sorry to rant but BMW labour costs are disgusting.

Dude!!!

Taking the mesh off of your scoop may lead to your post falling into the engine bay!

Best tell your postie before you lose some vital mail!

You see this brings another question.

As the car is under warranty would it invalidate it if you got pads done elsewhere?

It all seems a bit grey to me.

As brake discs and pads are not covered on a warranty then I would assume that it would not invalidate it. They would be classed as "fair wear and tear" unless they wear out abnormally quickly.

Im going to Scotthall tomorrow, I will double check that.

I changed all my discs and pads today for the GTT Spiralslots and Kevlar pads. Total cost including caliper rewind tool was £285. No fitting costs because i did it myself.

I got it done just in time for the brake fluid change tomorrow

If anyone wants to do their own discs/pads and needs a hand then just ask.

Damn! Was going to ask if you wanted some front Spiros and nearly new stage 2 pads!

Useful to know that someone local has the tool

Lottie, Scotthall say brakes are not covered on a warranty.

Dave, if you were going to ask - Why didn't you????!!!
No matter they might be useful to you after a few trackdays.
The caliper rewind tool is the most useful £20 i've spent in ages!
