Well my R53 has now gone and been replaced by an R56. A hard decision to make as I really enjoyed the R53 I had. Fuel consumption and tax costs etc made me change but I'm very happy with the R56. It is quite different in many ways some of which I prefer and some not too sure at the moment, I guess just getting used to it.
Just managed to give a quite wax  before the weather changes -

Thanks all for the nice comments..... power delivery is very different, not immediate response like the old supercharged unit but still good for a turbo and comes in with lots of low end torque smile.png Obviously the supercharger whine noise has gone sad.png but still has got a few nice pops and burbles out the exhaust though. I think its the steering thats the biggest difference after a quick outing this afternoon still cant put my finger on exactly what it is but a few more runs and I'm sure it will feel just right.....

Looks great with the Black and White colour scheme!

My current loan car has those wheels....finding them a bit hard, but they do look good!

Well I will have had my R56 three weeks tomorrow and thought I'd share my thoughts so far with you.....

The good bits -  smile.png
  • MPG is brilliant getting early forties on the motorway run to work!!
  • Ride is very smooth but firm and exhaust sounds just right
  • Still enjoying the nice low end chunk of torque
  • Ipod connection is brilliant haven't put a CD in the car since I got it
  • TLC pack to see me though the next few years

The not so good bits (mainly compared to my old R53 - cry.png
  • Still cant get used to the the overall proportions of the car still looks a bit odd from the front end
  • Stereo sounds extremely poor compared to my old HK system
  • Steering still feels slightly odd to me, weighting is ok but feels artificial in its feedback (if that makes sense)
  • Low end grunt is fun but lacks the winding up sensation of the supercharger with the noise and buzz of it all at the top end of the rev range. Coming back after a good blast in the R53 you know you've had a good blast!!
  • I really like the drive and quality feel of the R56 for a small car but not as a 'mini' it seems to be missing something or a sum of lots of little things.

I guess overall its great for the run to work very civilized and running costs are low which was one of the reasons for change but I really do miss my R53. Normally after buying a new car I'm 100% with it which I was when I picked it up but little doubts are creeping in  It has lost some of the character and engaging drive I had my R53 and you feel slightly remote from everything. If this was my first mini I would be very happy but because it isn't I know what its missing compared to my old R53.

Any fellow R56 owners please don't take my feedback the wrong way it's only my own thoughts at the moment, the R56 is still a great car but I'm yet to be fully won over. Hopefully my opinion will change in time but at the moment the jury is out on this one...

Hope the jury votes in favour , if not for you, at least for the bank balance Neal! I have done the past and current gen car thing before, and the way to look at it is: evolution - it's different. In a few weeks you will have forgotten the R53 foibles and will be in love with your car!

I must have missed this thread somehow, sorry Neal. The car looks lovely and i like those wheels, i wanted to get them but decided not yet.

I can understand your comments on R56 versus R53, i have very similar thoughts - all be it mine is just an S not JCW.

Think i might have to test drive a JCW.
